The Premier League’s contribution to the UK economy continues to grow, according to new independent research released by Ernst & Young. This evaluation report for the 2023/24 season shows several key statistics.

The Premier League and its clubs have contributed a total value added of 9.8 billion pounds to the British economy, an increase of 21% since the 2021/22 season and more than 14 times that of the 1998/99 season. The league supports more than 100,000 full-time equivalent jobs. At the same time, the league contributed £4.4 billion in tax revenue, of which £2.1 billion came from players and staff, with the revenue used to fund public services in the UK.

In terms of regional impact, the report highlights the Premier League’s huge contribution outside London. More than 60%, or £5.9 billion, of the economic contribution is generated by non-London clubs, while more than 30%, or 31,705 jobs, are in the north west of England.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said the league's growth has helped clubs invest in communities and football at all levels. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy called the Premier League a "global economic powerhouse" and "a real part of the country's identity". Peter Arnold, chief economist at Ernst & Young, pointed out that the Premier League attracts internal investment and is an "important source of soft power" for the UK.

In terms of community investment, the Premier League has invested 1.6 billion pounds in football and community undertakings in England and Wales between 2022 and 2025.

As one of Britain's most successful cultural exports, the Premier League has a huge global influence. A survey by PACT revealed that the Premier League generated £1.7bn in broadcast export revenue in the 2023/24 season, a figure almost in line with the £1.8bn generated by all other UK television industries combined.
