What to do if anal cyst in a cat? Diagnosis and treatment of cat anal cysts! Anal cysts in cats usually occur in middle-aged or elderly cats. The diseases that are easily induced are anal cyst obstruction, chronic infection and anal cyst abscess. Each anal sac is connected to the surface through a small tubule; there are rich fat-secreting glands arranged in the sac, which produce oily fluids that have a special odor to help animals develop social marking effects in the population. When the fluid in the anal sac becomes thicker or the catheter becomes blocked, the anal sac will be overfilled. As the water in the liquid is reabsorbed and the substances dry up, the anal sac will be blocked; severe blockage and infection may lead to rupture and abscess of the anal sac. Our hospital recently cured a case of anal cyst in a Siamese cat. Here we share with you the incidence and treatment plan of the disease.

1. Disease and clinical symptoms

According to the pet owner, the cat's appetite has decreased compared to before, and its activity has also decreased. Yesterday, it was found that the cat had not eaten food, was in poor spirits, and looked obviously thin, so he sent it to our hospital for examination. When taking the temperature, I found that the cat's anus was red and swollen, the anus was enlarged, and the squeezed purulent secretions and a small amount of blood oozed out. In addition, the cat showed difficulty in defecation and mild constipation.

Please give me advice. A transparent sac appears in the cat's anus. Please help me see what the symptoms are.

2. Laboratory examination

Clinical examination: The overall status of the animal is average, the nose mirror is moist, the anal temperature is 38.2 degrees Celsius (normal), normal breathing, no signs of vomiting and diarrhea, normal drinking and urination, no abnormality in the abdominal palpation, and anal examination shows redness, swollen and filthy skin around the anus, and the infection is very obvious. It is squeezed slightly below both sides of the anus at 4:00 and 8:00 (at the anal cyst tube), and there is purulent secretions and blood; blood test is performed after venous blood collection.

2.2 Fecal examination

No occult blood was found during fecal examination, and no other abnormalities were found.

3. Clinical diagnosis

(1) Clinical examination analysis: Make a diagnosis by examining the perineum and surrounding anus. The swollen anus of the diseased animal was palpated and squeezed, and the animal felt tender. After multiple squeezes, there were more purulent secretions and a small amount of blood flowing out of the anal cyst tube on both sides. It was initially diagnosed as an anal cyst.

(2) Analysis of laboratory examination results: There was no obvious abnormality in the conventional blood indicators; the urea nitrogen and globulin indicators in the biochemical indicators are relatively high, indicating that there is a possibility of infection.

(3) Comprehensive clinical examination, laboratory examination and feeding observation can rule out other digestive system diseases and diagnose it as anal cyst.

4. Clinical treatment

4.1 Drug treatment

The anus of the diseased animals were disinfected on the day of admission. First squeeze the anal capsule catheter that is blocked on both sides of the anus. After the purulent secretions in the anal capsule are squeezed out, rinse with hydrogen peroxide and normal saline. Finally, levofloxacin ointment is poured into the anal capsule, and the treatment is performed once in the morning and evening, and the medication is continued for one week. In order to shorten the recovery time, intramuscular injection of a quarter of each streptomycin and a week were used. On the third day of the medication, there were obvious signs of improvement in the affected area of the anal sac. On the fifth day of the medication, the overall condition of the sick animals improved significantly and the amount of activity increased. After 7 days, the sick animal was basically cured and discharged from the hospital.

4.2 Dietary adjustment

Feed prescription cat food.

4.3 Postoperative care

Every seven days, squeeze the anal capsule of the animal, empty the contents to prevent the cyst tube from being blocked, and apply levofloxacin ointment appropriately to the original and affected area. Ensure the amount of water the animals drink.

5. Summary

5.1 The causes of anal cysts

① The seasons are alternating, and the feeding environment is prone to become wet due to rainy seasons and other reasons. It is very easy to breed bacteria, which induces the onset of anal sac disease in the diseased animal.

②Pet owners often feed carnivore to animals, and the feed is relatively simple. A diet with high protein and high fat may lead to excessive secretion of glands in the anal cyst wall, causing anal cyst obstruction, and the accumulation of secretions in the cyst, causing anal cyst to enlarge, causing inflammatory reactions.

5.2 Types of anal cyst diseases

Anal cyst diseases are generally divided into three categories, namely anal cyst canal obstruction, anal cystitis and anal cyst abscess. The clinical symptoms vary very little. Each condition represents a different manifestation of the same disease process rather than a separate disease. Anal obstruction is usually characterized by sticky dark secretions; anal cystitis is characterized by lighter-colored milky yellow secretions, which may cause bleeding when the condition is severe; anal cysts are characterized by increased body temperature and inflammation, while the animal diseases in this case are mainly manifested in two symptoms: anal cyst obstruction and anal cyst inflammation.

5.3 Prevention and treatment,

Emptying the anal capsule can relieve pain in animals, actively disinfect the patient's area, and combine antibiotic treatment to control infection; regulate diet, avoid high fat and high protein during the onset, improve the feeding environment, and maintain dryness and ventilation to help the animal's recovery.

6. Summary: The incidence of anal cysts in cats is low, among which anal cyst canal obstruction is the most common. When unilateral anal sac infection occurs, the contents of the contralateral anal sac canal should also be emptied to prevent reinfection; actively emptying the anal sac can prevent this disease and reduce frequent occurrence. Generally, when purulent secretions are blocked, the process of squeezing the anal sac must be slow and cannot be roughly operated.
