On September 26, after nearly 4 hours of long journey, the monitoring team members came to the area where giant panda cubs were first discovered on September 23, 2018. They searched for animal traces on the surrounding animal paths. After careful search, I saw a sleeping giant panda cub in the tree hole where the last time I discovered it, again.
Monitor of Meigu Dafengding National Nature Reserve, Shama Niubu, said excitedly: "I saw another wild giant panda cub about the size of the one 4 years ago. I was really surprised and happy at the time. At the same place and at the same time, it was a bit like dreaming." The monitoring personnel of the Dafengding Nature Reserve Administration of the Dafengding Nature Reserve Bureau carried out monitoring work
The Dafengding Nature Reserve Administration of Meigu County immediately organized the monitoring personnel to sort out the infrared camera image data in the area and found that at 19:17 on August 12, a female giant panda that was about to give birth began to enter the tree hole. This infrared camera captured a total of 167 videos of the giant panda's activity in the tree hole, which recorded the various behaviors of the giant panda before, during and after giving birth.
Shang Buqi, head of the Scientific Research Monitoring Section of the Meigu Dafengding National Nature Reserve Administration, said: This is the first time that the Meigu Dafengding Nature Reserve has taken relevant information about giant pandas entering the cave to give birth in the wild. These related video materials are very precious and are extremely rare in China. They are of great significance to conducting research on the living habits of wild giant pandas, especially the breeding and childbirth behaviors.
Since giant panda cubs were found in this area in September 2018, giant pandas have returned here to give birth again after four years, which fully demonstrates that the area is very suitable for giant pandas to live and reproduce normally here, which also shows that the protection work in this area is effective. The Protection Area Administration will also pay close attention to the area and continue to strengthen the protection and resource monitoring of the area to better protect giant pandas.
