What is blue eye disease
Blue eye disease, also known as infectious hepatitis in dogs. Caused by infectious hepatitis virus infection in dogs, it is an acute septic infectious disease. The clinical symptoms of this disease are saddle-type high fever, severe malcoagulation, liver damage, corneal turbidity, etc.
What are the symptoms?
There are two types of infectious hepatitis in dogs, one is hepatitis type and the other is respiratory type.
Hepatitis-type symptoms
1. The dog has a poor mental state, a severe decrease in appetite, a rise in body temperature (40-41.5℃) and lasts for 2-6 days, which is reflected in a saddle-shaped body temperature curve;
2. The dog will feel abnormal thirst and drink water continuously, and often step two of its forelimbs into the basin to drink water; symptoms such as conjunctivitis and tears appear;
3. 2-3 days after the dog's onset, its jaw and limbs will be obviously swollen, its abdomen will become larger, it will be painful during palpation, its mucosa will be pale, and the corneals of one or both eyes will be turbid, and the corneas of one or both eyes will usually subside after 6-8 days. This is the title of "blue eye disease".
4. Some affected dogs will experience symptoms of bleeding gums, swollen tonsils and jaws and poor hemoglobin. Some affected dogs may also fall into long-term coma and convulsions. If it is an acute attack, the affected dogs will die after 1 to 2 days of high fever.
Respiratory symptoms
1. The dog has continued to have high fever for many days, and its pulse and breathing accelerates, and it turns from the initial dry cough to serous or purulent rhinitis;
2. The tonsils are swollen, accompanied by pharyngitis;
3. Some dogs will show symptoms such as muscle tremor, vomiting, thin stool and mucus.
Preventive measures
Preventive measures
1. Regular immunization has good results with attenuated vaccines and mixed vaccines. Pet dogs must plan to immunize both female dogs and juvenile dogs. After the dog is healed, it can make the body immune for life.
2. Isotype or heterotype bivalent or trivalent immune serum or immunoglobulin can be used for emergency prevention, but the protection period is limited to 2 weeks.
How to distinguish
Because the symptoms of infectious hepatitis in dogs are very similar to those of canine distemper, they may be confused. We can distinguish this method: if the sick dog experiences neurological symptoms such as convulsions, spasms, foaming on the mouth, it is likely that it is canine distemper. Also, the symptoms of respiratory infectious hepatitis are similar to viral colds and are difficult to distinguish. Therefore, after the dog has symptoms, it is necessary to send it to the pet hospital for examination and check for examination and confirm the diagnosis, so that the doctor can provide targeted treatment in time to prevent the condition from worsening further.
