It is something that many pet owners want to change their cats’ urination and defecation and develop the habit of using the toilet. In fact, as long as you use the right method and train slowly, this goal can be achieved. Of course, it is best to start educating cats from an early age to train them to use the toilet, so that they can develop good habits more easily.

1. Cats start to go to the toilet at a young age

1. Training habits as early as possible

One to three months after birth, when the kitten starts eating solid food, it can start defecation training; as long as it grasps the timing of training, it can easily remember it. During this period, cats should learn to use toilets and use toilets in a designated location.

2. Provide the concept of toilet

At the beginning, the kitten will urinate and defecate everywhere, so the owner should place the cat's poop on the cat's litter tray and bury it shallowly, which is to tell the kitten that he should go to the toilet here. When you first train, you can place newspapers on the kitten’s activity, just in case.

3. Remind the toilet time

When the kitten eats for fifteen minutes, place the cat on the litter tray and remind the cat to go to the toilet. The cat litter tray should not be higher than 2.5cm at the beginning to facilitate the entry and exit of the kitten. If a cat urinates and defecates everywhere, do not use severe measures and encourage them more.

4. Cats don't use cat litter trays

If a kitten has learned to go to the toilet and needs to use it for a day, then there is only one reason why the cat litter tray is too dirty. It is recommended that the owner clean it at least once a day, preferably once in the morning and once in the evening. Cats love to clean it very much.

5. Be careful to choose the quality of cat litter. You cannot use cat litter that will clump, because kittens will eat randomly, and cat litter that will clump contains cement-like ingredients. If eaten, it may block their intestines and cause major problems.

2. When training kittens, use the toilet at a designated location

1. Use habits: cat litter

If the kitten is brought from someone else's house, you can take some cat litter from the original owner's cat litter tray and put it on your own cat litter tray, and then take the kitten to the cat litter tray. When the cat smells this, it will know that the toilet is here.

2. Move slowly the position

The owner can use a small plate to put some cat litter in the toilet. The smell of cat litter will induce the cat to go in to the toilet. Then the owner can slowly move the small plate every day until the correct position.

During this process, cats have adapted to cat litter and have developed the habit of putting on cat litter trays on urination and defecation.

3. Encourage the cat to punish urinate and defecate anywhere, never use strict measures to teach it the wrong rules. This will result with twice the result, because the cat will be attracted by the smell, and the cat thought you wanted to tell it that it was a fixed toilet.

4. Eliminate the original odor

Cats will follow the odor to go to the toilet. If you go to the toilet in the wrong place at the beginning, you should thoroughly clean the cat's urination and drowning area to eliminate the odor, and at the same time raise your tolerance and continuously train the cat to the fixed potty area for convenience.

Kittens with female cats are not very troublesome.

5. Find a good place to use the toilet

The toilet pot should be placed in a fixed and hidden place. In addition to paying attention to cleanliness, it should also avoid noisy because there are many people. Cats will feel insecure when they are too public, while cats will be frightened when they are too noisy.

6. Habits become nature

When the kitten's tail is raised and there is a squat down movement, it means that the kitten is about to be liberated. Quickly put the kitten in the potty so that the cat knows that the place where the poop is is. Soon, after replicating it two or three times, the cat will learn where to relax when it is liberated.

3. Teach your cat how to go to the toilet

1. Change the location of the cat litter tray

and move the cat litter tray next to the toilet. At this time, you must take the cat to see the location of the cat litter tray (it is best to use an open cat litter tray). This tells the cat that the toilet has changed now.

2. Increase the height of cat litter

When the cat adapts to the new toilet position, raise the cat litter tray about 3 cm. It is best to use a cardboard box, because the cardboard box is non-slip and can prevent the cat litter tray from falling off. Cats need a sense of security, so everything needs to be stable.

3. Gradually change

Gradually raise the cat litter tray to the same height as the toilet. This process must be carried out slowly so that the cat can slowly adapt. At the beginning, the cat may have stepped into the cat litter tray and then jumped into the cat litter tray, so the cat needs good physical strength.

4. Put the cat litter on the toilet. Place the cat litter tray on the toilet. If the cat is not used to it, you need to divide the steps into two. First, put half of the cat litter box on the toilet, and then put the entire cat litter tray on the toilet after a while. Remove all the things that were originally placed under the cat litter box.

5. Reduce the amount of cat litter until there is no cat litter every day until there is no cat litter at all, and remove the cat litter tray. When you first start training, as long as you see a cat sitting on the toilet and defecate, you must praise it immediately. In this way, if the cat is encouraged, it will spontaneously sit on the toilet next time.

6. Remember to open the toilet during the entire training process, the toilet must be opened, and this habit must be developed by both the owner and the family. Once a cat learns to use the toilet, if the cat wants to go to the toilet, but finds that the toilet is covered, the cat may hold it in and keep it from urinating and defecating, which is not good for the cat.

7. It is not possible to train a cat to the toilet repeatedly. Taking a cat to the toilet repeatedly can only be trained well. Especially at the beginning, put some things that have the cat's own smell in the toilet, such as tissues or sand, to make it feel at ease. Of course, if you do the right thing, you should praise it more.
